Sweet Sunday.....With Sympathy

Happy Sunday Peeps!!

Here is the sweet sketch this week:

When I sat down to make my card for this sketch, a couple of weeks ago, I had the death of a school friend fresh on my mind. A girl who was a important part of my young life, a good friend and confident. We had remained friends into adulthood but I had loss touch with her several years back. Last fall she began to be on my mind and I had mentioned her to my husband several times and was wondering where she was and what she was doing. I wish now I had made more of an effort to find her then, because by the time I was made aware of her situation she was in a coma in the hospital and passed just a few days after I spoke with her husband. I was so very sad.
Any way this card is for her, I won't be able to send it to anyone, no services for her but it is for her none the less.

I started with my crumb cake layer. I used a stencil and crumb cake ink to had the harlequin BG.

I have to say I was very inspired by our former Sweet Sunday team member Jackie Pedro in making this card. Altho I did not use a particular card of hers I have always admired how she used kraft and vanilla with a pop of one color and these roses are some she used a lot. They are made using the MFT mini hybrid heirloom rose die. I love it and the die was a gift from her.
I used Crisp Cantaloupe card stock for my roses.

The leaf flourish is also a MFT die and is cut with some Pear Pizzazz card stock. The sentiment is
from a retired SU set.

Thanks for dropping by today and for helping me honor my friends passing.

Be sure and head over to the Sweet Sunday Blog to be inspired by the rest of the DT, they have some fabulous samples with this sketch to show you!

Oh my gosh, Vicki I'm so sorry about your friend that's sad. This card that you made in her honor is gorgeous! The rolled roses and stenciled background are so pretty. I'm sure your friend knows how much you've thought of her.

Oh Vicki, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. We always think we will have more time. I too lost a friend. It's been about 10 years now, but I think about them all the time. Your card is absolutely beautiful and a touching tribute to her. (((hugs)))

Those flowers are gorgeous and adore the colour combo you used. So sorry to hear the story behind the card, but what a wonderful tribute to what she has been in your life.

Love the flowers! My question is do you mail these or hand the card to the person intended? If you mail it do you do anything extra to make sure it gets there without squishing the flowers?
