Happy Thursday Peeps!
Today I am sharing a couple of cards I made using the sketch challenge this week on the Freshly Made Sketches Blog.
My small square layer is a bit bigger than the sketch but I wanted to make this card using the Stampin Up Birthday Surprise stamp set. I had seen this technique done recently in a video by Jennifer McGurie and I knew this set would be perfect to try my hand at doing the same.
The technique is called spotlight die cutting, altho my candles are not die cuts.
It is super easy and fun and gives a big impact in person.
I stamped the sentiment with Black Memento Ink and then cut my strips for the candles.
I used some temp. adhesive to lay the candles over the sentiment. I then stamped the sentiment again over the strips. I then removed the candles and added some dimensionals behind them and added them back onto the card piece. I made the flames for my candles using the wing from the bird punch. I punched it out with some daffodil delight card stock and then trimmed it down to make it the size I wanted for my flames. the inside piece is a leaf from the same punch. I added these to the card with some dimensionals too.
I added some crystal effects over the flames.
The base of the card is pumpkin pie card stock and then a layer of white that I embossed with the star EF.
The banner pieces are Pool Party and pear Pizzazz card stock.
Here is another example of this same card:
The base of this one is Lost Lagoon and I keep it very Clean and Simple.
The rest of the card is made like the previous one.
Well, that is all from me today.
Thanks for stopping by!

This is so much fun, Vicki! I love the teal background colour on the 2nd card but both are awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous effect!! Love it both ways - on the clean white and with the Lost Lagoon background. Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
ReplyDeleteI love your take on this technique - it is so clever and effective. Gorgeous card! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.
